First set up by the late restaurateur Francis Darroze in the 1970s, over the last few decades the name Darroze has become synonymous with high-quality Bas Armagnacs. Their ‘Les Grandes Assemblages’ label comprises a collection of blended expressions, where each age on the bottle indicates the age of the youngest armagnac in the bottle. This particular release is a beautifully aged 30-year-old Bas-Armagnac exuding notes of toffee and baking spices.

Camus isn’t afraid to experiment, as this expression illustrates. This dark amber blend begins as the same eaux-de-vie in the Extra Elegance, but it’s finished for a few weeks in special casks that have been emptied and reheated by an open flame. The result brings out the more intense sweet, pastry aromas and flavors — crème brûlée, chocolate mousse and apple strudel. This Cognac is a dessert in a glass… if that’s your thing. (40% abv)
