Danbury Ridge Pinot Noir 2023 is a dry red wine from the Crouch Valley of Essex. The long English 2023 growing season supported gradual ripening and bright acidity of Danbury`s Pinot Noir grapes. Low yields and clonal diversity contribute depth while a small proportion of whole-bunch fermentation adds tension. Ageing in mostly used barrels keeps the focus on fruit and structure. The 2023 shows ripe but transparent Pinot character with a direct finish shaped by extended hang time and careful picking.

The 2023 Pinot Noir spent 16 months in oak and is scented and supple from the start, red-fruited and floral, yet with that beautiful Essex ripeness. The palate is sinuous, translucent and aromatic with tannins that crunch like starched silk. A lovely, disarming Pinot Noir. Anne Krebiehl2nd January 2026

Complex Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Located between Blackwater estuary and the river Crouch in Essex, Danbury Ridge is a leading producer of English wines, producing premium still wines from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The estate was founded by Michael and Heather Bunker, and is managed by their daughters, Janine and Sophie.

The first vines were planted at Danbury in 2014, with the area’s unique mesoclimate (this part of Essex is one of the warmest and driest in British Isles) being deemed especially suitable to ripening Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. Now equipped with a state-of-the-art cellar managed by winemaker Liam Idzikowski, Danbury Ridge looks set to become one of the driving forces of the English wine revolution for years to come.
