Maya is the flagship wine of Dalla Valle Vineyards and has, for some time now, comfortably ranked amongst California’s most profoundly expressive Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines. Produced from a remarkable single vineyard, fewer than 500 cases are made each year and, over the past decade, it has achieved an extraordinary level of quality and consistency.

A blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Cabernet Franc, the 2016 release is yet again an absolutely stunning wine. Having awarded it a perfect 100-point score, Lisa Perrotti-Brown described it as having “the most incredible array of floral and red fruit layers” with “achingly beautiful wafts of cigar box, pencil lead, camphor, cinnamon stick and forest floor.”

100 The Wine Independent
The 2016 Maya, 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Cabernet Franc, is deep garnet in color. It needs a lot of swirling to bring out notes of blackcurrant preserves, black raspberries, and juicy plums leading to nuances of dark chocolate, violets, and fertile loam with wafts of iron ore and menthol. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers a jaw-dropping juxtaposition between grace and power, featuring super-ripe, fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness to support the intense black fruit and savory layers, finishing epically long and fragrant. This is stunning.Lisa Perrotti-Brown28th February 2024

The most reticent of the 2016s, Maya is going to need at least a few years in bottle to be at its best, and even that may not be enough. Today, the bright red fruit and soaring aromatics of the Cabernet Franc are especially evident. I have no doubt the 2016 will be spectacular when it opens up, but that is going to take at least a few years. Sweet red fruit, dried flowers, mint, blood orange and cinnamon build into a crescendo of aromas, flavors, and textures. Antonio Galloni1st January 2020
