D`Issan 2012 presents a complex bouquet of dark fruits, with blackcurrant and plum leading the charge. There are hints of cedar and tobacco, indicative of the wine`s maturation in oak barrels. On the palate, it reveals a medium body, with smooth tannins contributing to a balanced structure. The acidity is notable, providing freshness and supporting the fruit profile as it unfurls through the mid-palate.
Located in the Margaux appellation, Château d`Issan has a history dating back to the 12th century. This vintage comprises a blend of primarily Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, showcasing the terroir`s capabilities. The 2012 season was characterized by a warm growing period, creating optimal ripening conditions for the grapes. The wine is known for its aging potential, allowing it to develop further complexity over time.

A blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot, the 2012 d'Issan is deep garnet colored. Warm plums, black cherries, and mulberries leap from the glass with suggestions of bay leaves, graphite, and dusty earth in the undercurrent. The medium-bodied palate is laden with savory and earthy layers, framed by chewy tannins and finishing on a stewed black tea note.Lisa Perrotti-Brown16th February 2023
Vinous
The 2012 d'Issan is a Margaux that I have rated highly in the past, though this bottle inexplicably showed more oak on the nose that obscured the terroir expression. The palate is very smooth on the entry with succulent tannins, fine weight, again, a little too much emphasis on the oak, although there is freshness on the finish. Perhaps it just did not show on the day, and therefore I will not score based on this example. Tasted blind at the Southwold Ten-Year On tasting. Neal Martin27th September 2022
