D`Esclans Garrus Rosé 2014 is a medium-bodied, single-vineyard rosé from the Provence region of south-west France. Château d’Esclans is situated in the heart of Provence, northeast of St. Tropez and was purchased by Sacha Lichine in 2006. Considered Château d’Esclans’ finest wine, Garrus is made from a single vineyard of nearly 100-year-old vines. On the 2014. "I cannot believe that rosé wine can get any finer nor any more captivating than this wine. I have left a half a point off my score in order that owner / winemaker Sacha Lichine and his guru consultant Patrick Leon can one day prove me wrong, but this wine is, as far as I know (because it is inevitably breaking new ground), a perfect creation. The colour alone is exquisite – it seems to have a light filament inside, emitting a coral-coloured glow which manages to illuminate everything in its path. Garrus, made from 80+ year old vines (pictured), is a wine which treads an exquisite balancing act between awe-inspiring restraint and elegance and profound depth and unnerving power. There is spectacular density of fruit here coupled with insane length, but it is all done with heart-breaking control and finesse." Matthew Jukes

- Brilliant pale pink. A heady, strikingly complex bouquet evokes fresh strawberry, white peach, tangerine and pungent flowers, and suave vanilla and mineral elements develop in the glass. Deeply concentrated yet lithe and precise, offering palate-staining pit fruit, red berry, nectarine and honeysuckle flavors lifted by chalky minerality. Shows the silky texture of a top-notch white Burgundy and finishes extremely long, sappy and pure, displaying outstanding clarity and a lingering floral note. Made from 80-year-old (or older) vines and fermented and aged in new and used 600-liter barrels. Aside from its color, this wild and extremely impressive wine has very little in common with almost any pink wine in my experience.

Grenache and Rolle. Alcoholic fermentation in new and second-year demi-muids. 10 months with bâtonnage twice weekly. Very pale salmon. Bright, slightly tart nose. Pretty simple. A bit sweet and sour but with a beautiful texture. Competent but not especially interesting. Though the light tannins should keep it going for a while. Very youthful. Definitely not at all ready yet.
