Chateau d`Armailhac was Mouton D`Armailhac when ranked a 5th growth in the 1855 Bordeaux classification. After 3 other name changes, all involving the Mouton name, it was felt the quality of the wine deserved its own distinct identity and it is now consistently seen as one of the best value wines in Pauillac. it has clearly benefited from the Mouton wine-making expertise. The blend leans on Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a little Petit Verdot. The 2012 shows tobacco, black cherry, cassis and a peppery edge, with a soft, round, medium-bodied palate rather than heavyweight tannin. It was made for relatively early drinking and is now at or near its best; good with roast lamb or duck.
