D`Aiguilhe 2001 is a full-bodied red blend from the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation in Bordeaux`s Right Bank, primarily composed of Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The nose reveals aromas of black fruits, herbal nuances and a touch of earthiness. On the palate, it presents a structured medium body with a balanced acidity and present tannins. The wine is crafted to mature over the next decade, promising complexity as it evolves. D`Aiguilhe is overseen by noted winemaker Stephan von Neipperg, who is known for his innovative approaches in Bordeaux winemaking.
89 Robert Parker
A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2001 exhibits a deep ruby/purple color to the rim as well as a sumptuous bouquet of spice box, licorice, black currants, and loamy, earthy characteristics. Made in a suave, savory style, with medium body, sweet tannin, ripe fruit, and loads of balance as well as elegance, this beauty will drink well for 10+ years. It is a sleeper of the vintage. This large estate is owned by Stephan von Neipperg, who hired guru winemaking consultant Stephane Derenoncourt to make the wine. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
88 Vinous
- Bright, deep ruby-red. High-pitched aromas of blackberry, bitter chocolate and shoe polish, with a slightly rustic animal element. Rich, fat and dry, with flavors of dark berries, dark chocolate and violet nicely firmed by ripe acidity. Offers a finer texture but less power than the 2000. Finishes with sweet, fine, slowly mounting tannins and an impression of classic dryness.
