CVNE Imperial Gran Reserva 1996 is a full-bodied mature red Rioja with a complex bouquet of dried fruit, subtle oak spices and earthy undertones. On the palate, a blend of ripe blackberries and plums can be discerned, along with hints of leather and tobacco. The tannins are well-integrated, providing a structured yet smooth mouthfeel that evolves gracefully. CVNE, a historic producer founded in 1879 in Rioja, emphasises traditional winemaking techniques, resulting in wines that accurately reflect the region and its diverse terroir.

Dark red. Bright, spicy cherry and redcurrant on the nose, with sexy oak spice, leather, anise and coffee accents. Silky, broad and sweet, with the vibrant red fruit flavors building with air. The supple tannins blend nicely into the wine's rich cherry and currant flavors while conferring structure and focus. There's a load of flavor here but the palate impression is elegant and graceful. Concentrated, suave and long, a late note of cigar box providing even more interest. Absolutely lovely right now, this should hold for some time to come.

CVNE

A Spanish Classic

CVNE is a family-run company, founded in March 1879 in Haro, Rioja by Eusebio and Raimundo Real de Asúa. The Real de Asúa brothers’ aim was to capitalise on the flourishing new trade in wine and over 140 years later CVNE is still under the stewardship of the direct descendants of the founding family, now in its fifth generation.

Wines produced under the CVNE label include "Cune" a label inspired by an early mis-spelling of the CVNE name; "Monopole", a superb white Rioja; "Corona", a rare sweet white produced using grapes affected by noble rot; "Real de Asúa", a sister wine to the famous Imperial range; "Vina Real", premium red and white Rioja produced from grapes sourced in the Alavesa sub-region; "Pagos de Viña Real", CVNE's top tier Rioja first released in 2001; and "Contino", a Rioja produced using grapes sourced exclusively from a 62 hectare estate near Laserna.
