Domaine Blain Gagnard Criots-Batard-Montrachet 2018 Grand Cru Burgundy white wine from the climat of Criots-Batard-Montrachet in the Chassagne-Montrachet commune of the Côte de Beaune. At just over 1.5ha, the Grand Cru of Criots-Batard-Montrachet is one of the smallest appellations in France. The Chardonnay wines produced from this vineyard are some of the most sought-after in the world. rich, endlessly complex and capable of long, graceful ageing. "Here too there is a whiff of the exotic as well as a touch of phenolic character (think olive oil nuances) on the poached pear and apple compote aromas. There is excellent richness to the bigger-bodied flavours that are caressing yet markedly powerful finish that offers very fine depth and persistence. This isn`t elegant, indeed it`s borderline rustic, yet it nonetheless offers much to like in a firmly structured package." Burghound, 2021

Vinous
The 2018 Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a well-defined bouquet with more floral scents, fine crushed stone aromas with hints of honeysuckle becoming more pronounced with aeration. The palate is balanced with a powerful opening, quite a "burly" Bienvenue. Sappy, but somehow lacking persistence on the finish, as if rushing out of the exit door in a hurry. It then seems to fade in the glass returning after 10 minutes. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting. - Neil Martin
