Couvent des Jacobins is a historic Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé estate, one of the few properties located entirely within the town’s medieval walls. With a winemaking history dating back to the 14th century, the château is known for its traditional approach, working with old-vine Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, planted on limestone and clay soils.

The 1982 vintage, from one of Bordeaux’s most celebrated years, has reached full maturity, offering a refined and deeply expressive character. The predominantly Merlot blend delivers a richly textured palate of ripe plum, dried cherry, and black truffle, complemented by cedar, tobacco, and forest floor. Silky tannins and a lingering, savoury finish highlight its exceptional balance and ageing potential. A true testament to Saint-Émilion’s timeless appeal.

87 Robert Parker
The 1982 Couvent still has an impressive dark garnet color, and a complex, berry bouquet of cedar, herbs, chocolate, and licorice. On the palate, this fleshy wine is deep, rich, and full bodied, with a seductive, silky texture. It has attained full maturity. Anticipated maturity: Now-2001. Last tasted, 12/96. — Robert Parker, 1st January 1998
