The 1988 Château Coutet is made primarily from Sémillon grapes, with some Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle in the blend. This wine showcases a rich and complex profile with flavours of honey, candied citrus peel, apricot, and tropical fruits, supported by a bright acidity that balances the sweetness. Over time, the wine has developed tertiary aromas of nuts, caramel, and spice, adding more depth and complexity. Given the quality of the vintage and the wine`s age, the 1988 Château Coutet is likely to be at or near its peak, but it may still have some aging potential.

Vinous
The 1988 Coutet has a much better nose than the 1983 or 1985 with tangerine, yellow plum and light adhesive scents. This has a spring in its step. The palate is fresh on the entry with good weight, a fine bead of acidity, and marmalade mingling with tangerine and ginger, fanning out nicely toward the finish. This is the best bottle of the 1988 Coutet I have encountered, though do not approach it with sky-high expectations. Tasted from an ex-château bottle served at the estate.
