Château-Grillet Côte-du-Rhône 2014 is an oak aged Viognier white wine produced at the monopole Château-Grillet estate in the northern Rhône valley. The wine is rich, buttery with fruit notes of ripe apricot, white peach, lime and papaya, complemented by vanilla, jasmine and well-integrated oak spice. Château-Grillet is a celebrated white wine appellation in the northern Rhône. Neighbouring Condrieu, it produces ageworthy and highly sought-after wines exclusively from Viognier grapes. All the wines of the Château Grillet appellation are produced at the château itself.

There are just 800 bottles of the 2014 Côtes du Rhône Blanc, but man, what a beautiful wine. The declassified version of a Chateau Grillet, its light gold color is followed by a beautiful perfume of white flowers, hints of tangerine, orange blossom and subtle minerality. Medium-bodied, elegant and layered, it should keep for 3-4 years and is well worth checking out. Truthfully, it’s probably harder to find than the Chateau Grillet release.Jeb Dunnuck30th December 2016
