Jaboulet Côte-Rôtie Les Jumelles 1978 is a mature-vintage Syrah red wine from the northern Rhône Valley of France. Les Jumelles translates as `the twins` and refers to vineyards on the Côte Brune and Côte Blonde which make up this blend. While not as commonly referenced as Jaboulet wines such as the iconic Hermitage La Chapelle, Les Jumelles is invariably a superb expression of Côte-Rôtie`s prime Syrah terroir. "Bricky colour. Initial and striking impression of strong sweet spice on the nose and a touch of char as if it has just been in new oak. Though this changes over time to become more like black olive. Youthful and quite fresh though showing its age, a little cedary/leafy on the mid palate. Not lean. Quite juicy. Surprisingly alive and well and held up better in the glass than I had expected." Jancis Robinson MW, 2011
