The Côte Rôtie La Turque Guigal 2019 is a full-bodied single-vineyard Syrah from the northern Rhône Valley. The wine exhibits a deep, saturated purple colour indicative of its concentration. The nose presents an intricate blend of fresh blue and red fruits, complemented by hints of roasted meat, ground spices and a subtle mineral backbone. Full-bodied and layered, this wine displays structured tannins and a balanced profile. Guigal, a prominent domaine since 1946, is renowned for meticulous vineyard practices and selecting grapes from exceptional plots. Ideal for ageing, this vintage shows potential for peak enjoyment between 2030 and 2045.

The extroverted 2019 Cote Rotie La Turque is about as impressive a young wine as I`ve tasted at Guigal, with extravagant, blossom-like aromas and oodles of cassis and blueberries. Full-bodied, it`s simultaneously concentrated and rich yet airy and almost weightless, an outrageous juxtaposition of characters that must be tasted to be understood.

The muscular 2019 Côte-Rôtie La Turque is a wine of substance and class. Powerful and deep, it exhibits a juicy core of succulent black fruits, crushed rocks, black olives, espresso, menthol and licorice. Firmly built like a brick wall and massively concentrated, it demands extended bottle-aging to come together. This is shaping up to be a head-turning La Turque, but don’t even think about popping a bottle before 2030.Nicolas Greinacher28th March 2024

Benchmark for Côte-Rôtie excellence

Founded in the village of Ampuis by Etienne Guigal in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley, and is often seen as a benchmark for Côte-Rôtie Syrah. A pioneer of the single-vineyard concept in this appellation Guigal is best known for its top three wines, known affectionately as the 'La-Las', which is short for La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque – the domaine's top Syrah vineyards .

Other notable vineyards of this 75-hectare estate include La Doriane (the source of Guigal's Condrieu), Ex-Voto (used for Hermitage) and Vignes de l'Hospice (the source of one of Guigal's top St-Joseph Syrahs). All of these have become benchmark wines of their respective appellations. The Crozes-Hermitage appellation completes the roster of Northern Rhône estate vineyards.

Since 2006, Guigal has made a substantial investment in appellations of the Southern Rhône, using top-quality purchased fruit from trusted growers in Châteaneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and the Côtes du Rhône.
