Established in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis, E. Guigal is a prominent and leading winery based in the Rhône Valley. Positioned on the western banks of the Rhône River, Guigal is situated close to the renowned sun-drenched slopes of the Côte Rôtie, where their iconic flagship wines, ‘La Landonne’, ‘La Mouline’, and ‘La Turque’ are crafted. The 1999 ‘La Turque’ is still youthful, boasting notes of cherries, raspberries, smoke, flowers, spearmint, and thyme. Powerful, balanced, harmonious, and with a seamless finish that does not want to quit.
Full bright ruby. Nose boasts great aromatic lift and urgency, with the classic griotte cherry of La Turque plus bitter chocolate and licorice. Less complex in the mouth today than La Mouline but precise, pure and extremely primary (especially given the fact that it's been in barrel for a solid three years). Best today on the palate-staining finish. This is scheduled to be bottled in January of 2003 but probably could support even longer elevage.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2003

Benchmark for Côte-Rôtie excellence
Founded in the village of Ampuis by Etienne Guigal in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley, and is often seen as a benchmark for Côte-Rôtie Syrah. A pioneer of the single-vineyard concept in this appellation Guigal is best known for its top three wines, known affectionately as the 'La-Las', which is short for La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque – the domaine's top Syrah vineyards .
Other notable vineyards of this 75-hectare estate include La Doriane (the source of Guigal's Condrieu), Ex-Voto (used for Hermitage) and Vignes de l'Hospice (the source of one of Guigal's top St-Joseph Syrahs). All of these have become benchmark wines of their respective appellations. The Crozes-Hermitage appellation completes the roster of Northern Rhône estate vineyards.
Since 2006, Guigal has made a substantial investment in appellations of the Southern Rhône, using top-quality purchased fruit from trusted growers in Châteaneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and the Côtes du Rhône.
