Guigal is arguably the most renowned producer in Côte Rôtie and stands as one of the premier names in the Rhône Valley. Established in 1946 by Etienne Guigal, the estate was at the forefront of the concept of single-vineyard Côte Rôtie wines. His three most famous Syrah expression, La Landonne, La Mouline, and La Turque, are currently among the world`s most highly sought-after wines. The 2002 La Mouline is a fragrant and multi-layered wine, combining richness and depth. It features the traditional aromas and flavours of smoked meats, dried flowers, incense, and well-matured Syrah fruit. Despite a modest 5% Viognier inclusion due to botrytis, the wine still underwent the standard 40-month barrel ageing period before bottling.

Bright red. Intensely perfumed aromas of cherry and redcurrant, accented by cinnamon and dried flowers; smells downright Burgundian. Silky, sweet and mineral-driven red fruit flavors offer impressive energy and focus, with just a suggestion of tannin on the back end. I find this really elegant today.Josh Raynolds1st January 2007

Benchmark for Côte-Rôtie excellence

Founded in the village of Ampuis by Etienne Guigal in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley, and is often seen as a benchmark for Côte-Rôtie Syrah. A pioneer of the single-vineyard concept in this appellation Guigal is best known for its top three wines, known affectionately as the 'La-Las', which is short for La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque – the domaine's top Syrah vineyards .

Other notable vineyards of this 75-hectare estate include La Doriane (the source of Guigal's Condrieu), Ex-Voto (used for Hermitage) and Vignes de l'Hospice (the source of one of Guigal's top St-Joseph Syrahs). All of these have become benchmark wines of their respective appellations. The Crozes-Hermitage appellation completes the roster of Northern Rhône estate vineyards.

Since 2006, Guigal has made a substantial investment in appellations of the Southern Rhône, using top-quality purchased fruit from trusted growers in Châteaneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and the Côtes du Rhône.
