E. Guigal`s 1987 Côte-Rôtie La Mouline is marked by a high-intensity nose displaying blackberries, liquorice, smoked meat, coffee, leather and some Provencal herbs. On the palate, the wine is complex, showing light rounded tannins, solid fruit and strong acidity. Very long finish and well balanced. Drinking well now.
92 Vinous
Moderately saturated medium red. Ripe aromas of raspberry, red cherry, smoked meat and truffle. Dense, fat, sweet and full, even if it falls short of the greatest vintages in sheer complexity. This lush wine is perfect for drinking now but its remarkable retention of fresh red fruit flavors suggests it will be just fine in a cold cellar for another decade. Very sweet and peppery on the smooth finish.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2004

Benchmark for Côte-Rôtie excellence

Founded in the village of Ampuis by Etienne Guigal in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley, and is often seen as a benchmark for Côte-Rôtie Syrah. A pioneer of the single-vineyard concept in this appellation Guigal is best known for its top three wines, known affectionately as the 'La-Las', which is short for La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque – the domaine's top Syrah vineyards .

Other notable vineyards of this 75-hectare estate include La Doriane (the source of Guigal's Condrieu), Ex-Voto (used for Hermitage) and Vignes de l'Hospice (the source of one of Guigal's top St-Joseph Syrahs). All of these have become benchmark wines of their respective appellations. The Crozes-Hermitage appellation completes the roster of Northern Rhône estate vineyards.

Since 2006, Guigal has made a substantial investment in appellations of the Southern Rhône, using top-quality purchased fruit from trusted growers in Châteaneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and the Côtes du Rhône.
