Chapoutier Côte-Rôtie La Mordorée 1990 is a full-bodied, single-vineyard red wine produced in the Côte-Rôtie appellation of the northern Rhône Valley. Established in 1808, Maison Chapoutier is one of the biggest names in the Rhône Valley and makes excellent quality wines from pretty much every major appellation. La Mordoree was first produced in 1990 and is 100% Syrah sourced from 5 hectares of old vines located in some of the best parcels of the iconic Côte Blonde and Côte Brune. "The saturated dark ruby/purple colour is followed by an awesome nose that offers copious quantities of sweet black fruits, flowers, toasty new oak, and smoky bacon fat. In the mouth there is superb concentration, a sweet, expansive texture, and a mind-boggling, long finish. This lavishly rich Cote Rotie, which is already delicious, is capable of lasting for 10-15 years." Wine Advocate, 1996

Passion and Drive

One of the oldest producers in the Rhône Valley, M. Chapoutier was established in 1808. The arrival of a young Michel Chapoutier, who took over management of the family domaine in 1990, saw huge changes and a renewed drive for excellence, focussing especially on the diverse terroir of the Rhône. Michel has embraced biodynamic practices in recent years and attributes much of the increase in quality to this approach. The wines are generous and fruit-forward at the entry level, moving towards the sublime as we move up the quality ladder.

Two of the greatest wines in the portfolio are 'De L'Orée', an Hermitage Blanc made from 100% Marsanne and 'Le Pavillon', a full-bodied, expressive Hermitage rouge that effortlessly rubs shoulders with the world's greatest Syrah.
