Jean-Michel Gérin Côte-Rôtie La Landonne is a Syrah red wine from the Northern Rhône. This 2005 bottling comes from an iconic 0.4-hectare parcel of Syrah vines planted on the steep, iron-rich slopes of the Côte Brune. Gérin employs a modern approach, utilising 100% new oak for long-term ageing to tame the massive tannins and dark fruit of the site. The 2005 vintage provided the perfect framework of power and acidity for this structural, long-lived style. It presents a deep, brooding profile of liquorice, roasted coffee and concentrated black fruits that require significant decanting to reveal their full complexity.

Vinous
Ruby-red. Intense spice- and floral-accented cassis and blackberry aromas, with a strong graphite note. Vibrant and expansive, with bright, pure dark berry flavors and a building, sweet finish. A strong suggestion of violet pastille lingers impressively. This looks to be outstanding.Josh Raynolds1st January 2007
