Côte-Rôtie La Landonne Jean-Michel Gerin 1999 is a notable expression of Syrah from this esteemed northern Rhône vineyard. The wine showcases distinctive black tea and a mineral backbone, indicative of the region’s granite soils. Rich notes of dark fruit linger, suggestive of both maturity and complexity. The vintage reveals a well-defined structure, with tannins that are present yet integrated. Jean-Michel Gerin, based in Ampuis, has made a name for himself by emphasising traditional methods, producing wines that reflect the terroir of Côte-Rôtie.

Sadly, there are only 175 cases of the 1999 Cote Rotie La Landonne. This is a marvelous example of the vintage. It boasts a roasted, meaty, smoky-scented nose with notions of minerals, blackberries, and underbrush. It is full-bodied, thick, and muscular, with superb extraction. This inky/purple-colored wine needs 4-6 years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity. 2005-2020. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
