Established in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis, E. Guigal is a prominent and leading winery based in the Rhône Valley. Positioned on the western banks of the Rhône River, Guigal is situated close to the renowned sun-drenched slopes of the Côte Rôtie, where their iconic flagship wines, ‘La Landonne’, ‘La Mouline’, and ‘La Turque’ are crafted. The 2005 ‘La Landonne’ is polished, dense and bursting with energy, showing notes of brambleberry, dark cherry and fine layers of smoke. Plenty of smoked meat and bacon fat going around as well. Vibrant and electric acidity with lots of tension. Tannins are still quite tangible.

The only problem with Guigal’s 2005 Côte-Rôtie La Landonne is that it is too young. A wine of pure texture and silkiness, the Landonne graces the palate with stunning richness and depth. Three and half years in oak have given the 2005 a level of depth and density that is remarkable. But what is most impressive of all is just how primary the flavors are, even at eight years of age. Readers lucky enough to own the 2005 should cellar it for at least another five years. I imagine it will still be spectacular at age 30. Today it is the wine’s pure texture and persistence that impress most.Antonio Galloni1st December 2013

Benchmark for Côte-Rôtie excellence

Founded in the village of Ampuis by Etienne Guigal in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley, and is often seen as a benchmark for Côte-Rôtie Syrah. A pioneer of the single-vineyard concept in this appellation Guigal is best known for its top three wines, known affectionately as the 'La-Las', which is short for La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque – the domaine's top Syrah vineyards .

Other notable vineyards of this 75-hectare estate include La Doriane (the source of Guigal's Condrieu), Ex-Voto (used for Hermitage) and Vignes de l'Hospice (the source of one of Guigal's top St-Joseph Syrahs). All of these have become benchmark wines of their respective appellations. The Crozes-Hermitage appellation completes the roster of Northern Rhône estate vineyards.

Since 2006, Guigal has made a substantial investment in appellations of the Southern Rhône, using top-quality purchased fruit from trusted growers in Châteaneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and the Côtes du Rhône.
