Domaine Guigal, founded in 1946, is a legendary name in the Rhône Valley, and its Côte-Rôtie La Landonne is one of its finest expressions. The 1999 vintage is a full-bodied, single-vineyard wine made from 100% Syrah, sourced from the 2-hectare La Landonne vineyard on the Côte Brune. The wine is vinified in stainless steel and aged for 42 months in new French oak, which imparts depth and complexity. Deeply concentrated, it offers aromas of blackberries, cassis, smoked meats, and earthy notes. On the palate, it’s powerful and rich, with a silky texture, vibrant acidity, and a long, persistent finish. This wine exemplifies Guigal’s mastery of Côte-Rôtie, showing great balance and structure, with excellent ageing potential. A benchmark for quality in the northern Rhône. “I have given perfect scores to other vintages of La Landonne, but the black/purple-colored 1999 Cote Rotie La Landonne may be the finest effort Guigal has ever coaxed out of this vineyard. Literally out of this world in terms of flavor concentration and balance, the finish lasts well over 60 seconds. Anticipated maturity. 2007-2030” Robert Parker, Wine Advocate , June 2003
Bright dark ruby, the deepest of these '99s. More sauvage aromas of black fruits, leather, game and black pepper; classic raw syrah berries. Extremely dense, full and sappy; this saturates every millimeter of the palate. A remarkably glyceral, thick wine with great clarity of flavor and verve. Extraordinary reverberating finish throws off notes of black fruits, brown spices, pepper and earth.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2003

Benchmark for Côte-Rôtie excellence
Founded in the village of Ampuis by Etienne Guigal in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley, and is often seen as a benchmark for Côte-Rôtie Syrah. A pioneer of the single-vineyard concept in this appellation Guigal is best known for its top three wines, known affectionately as the 'La-Las', which is short for La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque – the domaine's top Syrah vineyards .
Other notable vineyards of this 75-hectare estate include La Doriane (the source of Guigal's Condrieu), Ex-Voto (used for Hermitage) and Vignes de l'Hospice (the source of one of Guigal's top St-Joseph Syrahs). All of these have become benchmark wines of their respective appellations. The Crozes-Hermitage appellation completes the roster of Northern Rhône estate vineyards.
Since 2006, Guigal has made a substantial investment in appellations of the Southern Rhône, using top-quality purchased fruit from trusted growers in Châteaneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and the Côtes du Rhône.
