Yves Gangloff Côte-Rôtie La Barbarine is a Syrah red wine from the Northern Rhône. This 2010 bottle, despite a damaged label, represents one of the most sought-after names in the appellation for his artisanal and expressive style. La Barbarine is primarily sourced from the southern part of the Côte, where the soil is composed of mica-schist and granite. Gangloff utilises a small percentage of Viognier to lift the dense Syrah fruit and add floral complexity. The 2010 vintage is legendary for its balance, offering a profile of black raspberry, white pepper and smoked meats with a silky, refined texture.

NB vintage. Younger vines on all granite in the south of the appellation. Fills out on the palate and really fresh but not skinny. Very pure, an ascetic rendition. (JR)Jancis Robinson26th November 2012
