Côte Rôtie Jamet 1996 is a full-bodied Syrah crafted by Jean-Paul Jamet, a venerated figure in winemaking at Domaine Jamet since 1976. The grapes are sourced from the Côte de Blonde vineyard, contributing to the wine’s complexity. Aged for up to 24 months in oak barrels, with 20% new wood, this vintage displays a profile of pepper, smoked herbs, black currants, and liquorice. The 1996 vintage reflects the challenges of its era, yet it remains a study in restraint and depth, evolving gracefully over time.

Vinous
Ruby-red. Slightly high-toned aromas of violet, fresh blood, damp earth, woodsmoke and prune; has a distinct aspect of fruit compote. This is in an oxidative phase following the September bottling, says Jamet. Supple and ripe in the mouth, with flavors fresher than the aromas; shows the sound acids of the vintage. Finishes firmly tannic, and considerably less sweet than the Jamet '97 Côte-Rôtie. In an awkward stage today, and almost certainly better than it showing now.
