Guigal Côte-Rôtie Château d`Ampuis is a Syrah red wine from the Northern Rhône. This 2017 magnum is a blend of seven exceptional vineyards, including both the Côte Blonde and the Côte Brune. The wine contains 7% Viognier, co-fermented with the Syrah to enhance the floral aromatics and stabilise the deep colour through co-pigmentation. Guigal ages this cuvée for 38 months in 100% new French oak, creating a wine of massive structure and spicy complexity. The 2017 season produced fruit with excellent ripeness, resulting in layers of dark plum, bacon fat and espresso with a broad, coating mouthfeel.

Deep violet color. Energetic blueberry, black raspberry, potpourri and exotic spice qualities on the extroverted nose. Juicy and energetic on the palate, offering sappy black and blue fruit, allspice, star anise and floral pastille flavors that stain the palate and deepen through the back half. Closes impressively long and sweet, with repeating blue fruit character, well-knit tannins and reverberating mineral and spice notes. Josh Raynolds22nd December 2022

Benchmark for Côte-Rôtie excellence

Founded in the village of Ampuis by Etienne Guigal in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley, and is often seen as a benchmark for Côte-Rôtie Syrah. A pioneer of the single-vineyard concept in this appellation Guigal is best known for its top three wines, known affectionately as the 'La-Las', which is short for La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque – the domaine's top Syrah vineyards .

Other notable vineyards of this 75-hectare estate include La Doriane (the source of Guigal's Condrieu), Ex-Voto (used for Hermitage) and Vignes de l'Hospice (the source of one of Guigal's top St-Joseph Syrahs). All of these have become benchmark wines of their respective appellations. The Crozes-Hermitage appellation completes the roster of Northern Rhône estate vineyards.

Since 2006, Guigal has made a substantial investment in appellations of the Southern Rhône, using top-quality purchased fruit from trusted growers in Châteaneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and the Côtes du Rhône.
