Maison Leroy is a central part of the Leroy portfolio, featuring a collection of wines hand-selected by Madame Lalou Bize-Leroy herself, such as this Cote de Beaune-Villages from 2010’s vintage. On the nose, the wine showcases aromas of dried cranberries, cherries and dusty wild strawberries but is dominated by worn leather, tobacco, mushroom, wet rock and underbrush. On the palate, the wine displays notes of crushed raspberries, dried strawberries, roses, forest floor, truffle, dried green herbs, smoke, white pepper and stone minerality.
The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988). Maison Leroy was founded by François Leroy as a négociant house in 1868 in the village of Auxey-Duresses and is today headed up by the renowned Lalou Bize-Leroy.
Unlike Domaine Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay, Maison Leroy represents a portfolio of wines selected by Lalou, but not made by Lalou. Vignerons from across Burgundy will submit their wines for evaluation and, following a blind tasting, Lalou will select just a few to be bottled under the Maison label.
