Cossart Gordon Bual 1961 is a medium-rich fortified wine from the island of Madeira. This bottling represents a significant period in the history of the house, which was founded in 1745 and remains one of the oldest in the trade. The wine underwent the traditional canteiro ageing process, spending 43 years in seasoned American oak casks in the warm lofts of Funchal to develop its characteristic complexity. The wine shows the classic Bual profile. a style that balances its residual sugar with high volatile acidity and a distinct saline streak. This 1961 displays intense notes of burnt orange peel, roasted walnuts, dark chocolate and furniture polish. The palate is driven by a piercing acidity that carries the concentrated dried fruit and spice flavours through a remarkably long, dry finish.
