Cos d`Estournel 1994 is a full-bodied Left-Bank Bordeaux from the appellation of St-Estephe. Named after its 19th-century owner, Louis-Gaspard d`Estournel, the Second Growth Cos d`Estournel is the leading estate in St-Estephe. The wines of the estate tend to include a relatively high proportion of Merlot, however they remain defined by their power, structure and longevity. "Cos d`Estournel`s unfiltered 1994 is one of the top wines of the vintage. It boasts an opaque blue/black/purple colour, as well as a fabulously sweet nose of black fruits, liquorice, pain grillee, and Asian spices. Full-bodied, with sweet, opulent fruit that reveals none of the vintage`s tough tannin, this remarkably rich, well-balanced, classic wine will prove to be uncommonly long-lived. Cos d`Estournel is clearly producing wines that are often of first-growth potential." Wine Advocate, 1997

Vinous
Gingery sweet oak, black raspberry, black cherry and spice on the nose. Dense and firm, with very good concentration. Expressive and enticing thanks to the very ripe merlot (for the half of the crop that did not go through reverse osmosis, the merlot was chaptalized just a half degree, vs. two for the cabernet sauvignon). Deep and long, with enough acidity to give the wine excellent balance. Stephen Tanzer1st May 1996
