Based in Beaune, Maison Louis Jadot has a long and fascinating history dating back to 1859. Today, Jadot is one of the most consistent growers and négociants in Burgundy, with a vast portfolio of wines – from easy-drinking, accessible village wines to complex, age-worthy Grand Crus, such as this Corton-Pougets. The Maison owns a superb, southerly-exposed parcel here of approximately 1.5 hectares purchased back in 1914. This privileged site yields complex, opulent wines which are well-structured and richly fruited.

Clear medium red with some amber at the rim. The first wine in the line-up that smells fully evolved, offering a strong cedary balsamic quality as well a touch of volatile acidity to its plum and underbrush aromas. Concentrated, chewy, tactile wine with excellent energy and tannic support. In a savory style, conveying surprising acidity and finishing with slightly dusty tannins. This vintage featuring a so-so September was saved by low yields, noted Barnier, who added that a lot of '95s are not yet easy to taste. Still, I'm not sure how long this wine will last.Stephen Tanzer1st February 2019
