Domaine Rapet Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne is a Grand Cru white Burgundy from the Côte de Beaune. This 2014 magnum showcases a vintage widely considered a modern benchmark for white Burgundy due to its precision and longevity. Rapet’s holdings are located in the heart of the hill, where the vines benefit from full southern exposure and limestone-heavy soils. The winemaking involves traditional barrel fermentation with careful lees management to build texture without sacrificing the sharp acidic spine. It reveals a grand, expansive palate of white peach, toasted hazelnuts and a profound, chalky mineral core that persists on the finish.

Relatively restrained and understated on the nose. Smoke and slate on the palate with a floral quality just emerging. This requires some attention to recognise its nuances, but there is plenty going on under the surface – it just needs some bottle age to emerge properly. Reassuringly concentrated fruit on the finish. (RH)
