Maison Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne 2021 is a Grand Cru Chardonnay from high-elevation limestone Corton plots that suffered a 70% loss in volume due to spring frost. This yield reduction combined with a cool growing season produced a wine with a skeletal structure and a sharp acidity that contrasts with the riper 2019 and 2020 vintages. The palate is defined by citrus pith and a cold flinty character rather than the broad yellow fruit or lactic weight often seen from Jadot.

Aromas of lime zest, freshly baked bread, pear, white flowers and wet stones preface the 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru , a full-bodied, ample and satiny wine that`s chalky and structured, with notable concentration, racy acids and a long, resonant finish. It`s a very strong performance that transcends any of the vintage`s limitations. - William Kelley

The 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is slightly paler in colour. It has a honeyed nose that suggests some botrytised fruit. As such, it just lacks a bit of definition. The palate is lightly spiced on the entry with notes of orange cordial, tangerine and mango. A little predictable in style with a pleasurable if simple finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
