The Corton Charlemagne Henri Boillot 2022 is a Grand Cru white Burgundy produced from the esteemed Corton-Charlemagne appellation in the Côte de Beaune. This wine reflects the meticulous practices of Domaine Henri Boillot, established in 2005 by a family with deep winemaking roots. The wine showcases a layered complexity where notes of ripe fruit, mineral undertones, and floral hints compete for attention. Its structure offers a distinctive balance, promising a contemplative experience for any discerning enthusiast. Expect a lengthy and mineral-driven finish.

Cask sample. Spicy, mealy oak on first impression. Hint of struck match and intense limey fruit. Powerful, concentrated yet already harmonious in youth. Intense and very long. Real grand cru quality. (JH)
Vinous
- The 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is a blend of fruit from Aloxe-Corton (75%) and Pernand-Vergelesses (25%), a combination that works well in giving the wine balance. There's quite a bit of phenolic intensity and youthful austerity here. Herbs, crushed rocks, graphite, mint and citrus confit build nicely. I very much admire the vibrancy here, even if the 2022 remains a bit unyielding today. - Antonio Galloni

Father and Son

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
