Corton-Charlemagne Henri Boillot 2006 exhibits a complex aromatic profile of fresh citrus, green herbs and subtle spices. The palate presents a blend of chalky mineral elements and saline notes, delivering a refreshing and precise experience. The finish is characterised by a firm grip, with slight bitterness reminiscent of stone fruit pits. Henri Boillot, a producer known for his meticulous approach, has built a reputation for sourcing exceptional small lots from prestigious Côte d`Or vineyards. This wine reflects his commitment to precision and mineral expression, showcasing the unique terroir of the region.

(at the end of its malo) Ripe aromas of apple, pear and clove. Densely packed and tactile, with superb richness and concentration and a deep core of spice. Best today on the finish, which features soil-driven flavors of crushed stone and menthol. Not a particularly austere style of Corton-Charlemagne but this will be better for extended cellaring.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2007

Henri Boillot

Father and Son

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
