Founded in 1865, Maison Camille Giroud is a boutique négociant based in Beaune. In 2001 the business was sold to a group of American investors, and it is currently managed by Carel Voorhuis, who continues to craft seductive and terroir-driven wines. The maison’s Corton-Charlemagne Our wine is derived from vines situated at an altitude of up to 320 metres, some of which are 50 years old. The 2019 vintage combines ripe citrus and stone-fruit notes, all wrapped by a creamy texture and spine-tingling freshness.

The 2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is nuanced on the nose. Yellow fruit commingles with subtle nougat, toffee and apple scents, with very focused with cleverly integrated oak. There is an effortlessness about these aromatics. The palate is well balanced with yellow plum, orange rind and hints of ginger and white pepper, but this is just missing that bravura finish that would have merited a higher score. It’s a bit oily in texture, which I actually quite like, but maybe just a bit too alcoholic. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.Neal Martin12th December 2023
