Bouchard Père & Fils is one of Burgundy`s oldest wine estates, founded in 1731 by textile merchant Michel Bouchard. It is now owned by the Henriot family, whose portfolio also includes William Fèvre, Beaux Frères, and Champagne Henriot. This particular cuvée hails from Corton-Charlemagne, the prestigious Grand Cru site situated in the Côte de Beaune. Bouchard owns a 3.65-hectare plot in this vineyard, which is known for producing rich and powerful wines with intense fruit and toasted aromas, complemented by mineral notes.

The 2021 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is very composed with clear delineation on the nose. It is tightly coiled initially, then finds its feet and blossoms with lemon thyme, orange pith and subtle hazelnut scents. The palate is well balanced with a silver bead of acidity. Precise and tensile, I appreciate the energy and sorbet-like freshness of this Grand Cru, leaving a dab of lemongrass on the aftertaste. This feels very assured and, in banal terms, very delicious - far better than its performance from barrel. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin8th October 2025

Timeless legacy in Burgundy’s heart

Established in 1731, Maison Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest and largest wine estates in the Côte d’Or. In 1995, the estate was acquired by the Henriot family, whose portfolio also includes William Fèvre, Beaux Frères, Château de Poncié and Champagne Henriot. Bouchard boasts vineyard holdings totalling approximately 130 hectares, including 74ha of Premiers Crus and 12ha of Grand Crus, with as many as 450 different individual plots. While the maison’s vast mosaic of holdings are weighted towards the Côte de Beaune, the Côte de Nuits is also a major focus.

The maison’s original vineyard was purchased by Joseph Bouchard in Volnay Les Caillerets in 1775. Not long after Beaune Grèves Vigne de l’Enfant Jesus followed. Now one of four Bouchard monopole vineyards, Beaune Grèves Vignes de l’Enfant Jésus was once owned by the Carmelite order of nuns and is the source of Bouchard’s flagship wine. Bouchard’s extensive suite of wines is produced and aged at the state-of-the-art, gravity-fed Cuverie Saint Vincent in Savigny-lès-Beaune. Once bottled, the wines are stored beneath the historic Château de Beaune, built in the 15th century by King Louis XI and purchased by Bernard Bouchard in 1820.

With almost 300 years of savoir-faire, from its unrivalled multiplicity of terroirs, Bouchard stands as one of the most eminent names in Burgundy winemaking.
