Cornas Reynard Thierry Allemand 2006 is a red wine from steep granite slopes surrounding the village of Cornas. Sourced from old vines averaging over fifty years, it reflects Allemand’s careful approach to ripeness and minimal intervention. The nose shows dark berry, olive and smoke, with hints of game and iron emerging as the wine opens. The palate is compact and savoury, defined by firm but refined tannins and a deep mineral core. Acidity brings lift through the mid-palate, and the finish carries length and precision, showing the balance of power and restraint typical of Reynard.

Vinous
(scheduled to be bottled in December 2008) Vivid ruby. Intensely perfumed nose displays spicy red berry and cherry scents, with deeper cocoa and licorice qualities. Chewy, slightly bitter berry and cherry skin flavors are firmed by dusty tannins. Becomes sweeter on the finish, with the licorice note echoing. More powerful than the Chaillot but I prefer that wine's clarity and elegance right now.Josh Raynolds1st January 2009
