Allemand Cornas Reynard 2001 is a full-bodied single-vineyard red wine produced from Syrah grapes in the Cornas appellation of the northern Rhône Valley. The quiet hero of Cornas, Thierry Allemand is a committed traditionalist working with minimal sulphur to produce terroir-driven Syrahs that have slowly but surely achieved a sort of cult status. His Reynard cuvée is produced from his oldest Syrah vines and counts among the most sought-after bottles in the northern Rhône. "Pure aromas of blackberry, black raspberry and violet; more deeply pitched and less expressive today than the Chaillot. Bigger and thicker in the mouth but also with terrific verve and floral perfume. Clearly higher in volatile acidity than the Chaillot ... But still rather closed on the finish, which features excellent density, strong peppery tannins and impressive persistence." International Wine Cellar, 2004
