While Cornas wines may not command the premium prices of their more famous counterparts to the north – namely Hermitage and Côte Rôtie – the region enjoys the same advantages of steep granite slopes and abundant sunshine hours as Hermitage, situated just 13 kilometres to the north. The wines are typically characterized by their richness, power, and deep, long-lasting nature, often accompanied by supple and mature tannins. This 1989 vintage, crafted by Pierre Lionnet, unveils an intensely rustic bouquet redolent of dark fruits, meat, and mineral notes. It offers a full-bodied experience with well-resolved tannins and a remarkable structural foundation. The complexity persists through the finish, showcasing that this wine is still very much alive and vibrant.
