Convalmore was one of the so-called `Seven Stills of Dufftown` and mostly produced spirit for blends like Black and White and Lowrie`s back in the day. The distillery was finally moth-balled in the mid-1980s and very few official bottlings remain.

This 28 year old Convalmore is a punchy, powerful dram with a sweet malt note on the nose and palate. Fruit cake, antique wood and raisons mingle on the palate before a medium finish with a touch of charred oak.

A Lost Distillery

Another closed distillery with an interesting history. Following a fire in 1909, Convalmore switched from distilling in pot stills to using continuous stills - a method of production associated with grain whiskies. Following six years, it was decided to move back to pot stills and the distillery continued producing single malt until it closed in 1985. Convalmore was never official bottled as a single malt in its lifetime, instead supplying whisky for blends like Black and White.

There are occasional releases of mature whisky as part of Diageo's Special Releases series and some independents have released excellent bottlings - Gordon and MacPhail most notably. The distillery site is currently used as warehousing and there are no plans to revive it.
