Having founded his domain in 1971 with just three parcels of vines, René Rostaing has slowly but surely accrued 7.5 hectares of prime vineyards across the Northern Rhône and is now, with the assistance of his son Pierre, recognised as one of the highest quality producers in the region. Though most famous for their reds, they produce a small amount of Condrieu which should not be overlooked. The 2018 La Bonnette is an attractive, medium-bodied and pretty Viognier, offering up delicious scents of stone fruits, citrus blossom and crushed stone minerality. Textural and broad on the palate, but with ample freshness, this is an excellent example of the beauty of this much-maligned variety.

Glistening straw color. Potent, mineral-accented aromas of pear nectar and orange pith are complicated by a floral accent that gains strength with aeration. Seamless and expansive in the mouth, displaying impressive focus to its lively citrus and orchard fruit flavors. Delivers a suave blend of richness and finesse finishing with strong mineral cut and emphatic, floral-driven persistence.Josh Raynolds1st May 2020

Having just come out of barrel into tank, the 2018 Condrieu la Bonnette was in a cloudy, leesy state that made it impossible for me to properly evaluate. It showed ample weight, a sense of balance and plenty of length, so I have no doubt it will ultimately emerge as a solid effort; I just happened to encounter it at an inopportune time.Joe Czerwinski19th December 2019
