Condrieu Guigal 2020 is a full-bodied white wine crafted from 100% Viognier grapes, sourced from the northern Rhône Valley of France. This vintage showcases the diversity of its Condrieu terroir, where the grapes thrive on steep, sun-drenched slopes of decomposed granite. Ageing occurs in oak barrels for a period of 12 months, allowing for a subtle integration of wood character. The wine expresses a clear profile of apricot and peach, alongside hints of floral notes.

The fragrant 2020 Condrieu enters the stage with prominent lemon flesh, yellow apple, white peach, apricot and melon aromas. Medium- to full-bodied, it dazzles with a juicy core of ripe stone fruit flavors, mellow acidity and solid drive on the complex finish.Nicolas Greinacher28th March 2024

Bottled in June 2021, the 2020 Condrieu was singing when I tasted it. Two-thirds of the volume was aged in tank, while one-third went into new oak, yet there`s no overt woodiness here, just pristine floral notes backed by ripe melon flavors. With less opulence and fewer apricot notes than the 2019, it`s medium to full-bodied, silky and elegant, with just the merest hint of bitterness evident on the lingering finish.

Benchmark for Côte-Rôtie excellence

Founded in the village of Ampuis by Etienne Guigal in 1946, Domaine Guigal is one of the most revered and unwaveringly consistent estates in the Rhône Valley, and is often seen as a benchmark for Côte-Rôtie Syrah. A pioneer of the single-vineyard concept in this appellation Guigal is best known for its top three wines, known affectionately as the 'La-Las', which is short for La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque – the domaine's top Syrah vineyards .

Other notable vineyards of this 75-hectare estate include La Doriane (the source of Guigal's Condrieu), Ex-Voto (used for Hermitage) and Vignes de l'Hospice (the source of one of Guigal's top St-Joseph Syrahs). All of these have become benchmark wines of their respective appellations. The Crozes-Hermitage appellation completes the roster of Northern Rhône estate vineyards.

Since 2006, Guigal has made a substantial investment in appellations of the Southern Rhône, using top-quality purchased fruit from trusted growers in Châteaneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Tavel and the Côtes du Rhône.
