Colgin Cellars was established by Ann Colgin in 1992. Initially, she crafted her early vintages from vineyards near the base of the Howell Mountains in Napa Valley. Later, she acquired land on Tychson Hill and enlisted the renowned viticulturist David Abreu to oversee vineyard planting. The Cariad Red Wine is the result of a blend of grapes from three vineyards, typically featuring Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. The 2011 vintage is currently very approachable, offering abundant crushed currants with subtle notes of pencil lead and a hint of pepper on the finish. It exudes a succulent, jammy, and grippy character, concluding with an intense finish. A full-bodied, rich, and densely structured wine.

The 2011 Cariad is a dark, brooding beauty. A whole range of savory and earthy nuances play off a dark cherry and plum fruit. The 2011 is distinguished by its surprising breadth and volume. The strong savory qualities of the year are present in a wine that impresses with its balance and poise. It is a terrific example of the year. Antonio Galloni31st May 2022
