Situated on the outskirts of Beaune, Maison Louis Jadot has a long and fascinating history dating back to 1859. Today, Jadot is one of the most consistent growers and négociants in Burgundy, with a vast portfolio of wines – from easy-drinking, accessible Bourgogne to complex, age-worthy Grand Crus. This release is from Clos Vougeot, a Grand Cru vineyard that was originally established by Cistercian monks in the 11th century. Burgundy 1999 was a standout vintage for Pinot Noir, offering deep colours and rich, ripe black fruit of exceptional purity.

Bright red-ruby. Deep aroma of raspberry, flowers, tobacco and sweet oak, along with a suggestion of medicinal cherry. Dense, rich, chewy and deep, but still rather tightly wound. Very solidly structured but not hard. Finishes firmly tannic and impressively long.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2002
