Clos du Clocher 2005 is a Pomerol wine crafted from 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc, sourced from a single vineyard known for its exceptional terroir on the right bank of Bordeaux. The vineyard benefits from a unique clay and gravel composition, which contributes to the wine`s structure and depth. In 2005, the wine displays notes of black cherry, plum and subtle herbal undertones. With limited production, this excellent vintage should continue to mature well over the next decade.

Delivering prime Pomerol character, cocoa dusted black cherry fruits, olive pit, peony flowers and grilled patisserie. This was the moment that a buzz was beginning to build around Clos du Clocher, and you can see why, fully benefitting from a sunny and hot summer, without too many stresses through the growing season. You can enjoy this today, but there is zero question that if you come back in 20 or 30 years it will still be giving pleasure. The first vintage that current owner Jean Baptiste Bourotte was entirely responsible for, taking over from his father Pierre. 55% new oak for ageing.Jane Anson10th July 2024

The 2005 Clos du Clocher offers good density and plenty of power. Mature aromatics and potent, searing tannins argue for drinking this sooner rather than later. This is a decidedly heady, extracted style. I find the tannins and finish a bit astringent. Antonio Galloni1st April 2021

Sweet, ripe, floral nose. Rich, broad spread of winning flavours. More forward than some though with excellent structure and energy underneath. Very positive. (JR)
