Lucien Le Moine is a small, boutique négociant house founded in 1999 by Mounir and Rotem Saouma with production limited to 100 barrels per year of solely Premier and Grand Cru vineyards. Their Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is sourced from the bottom, middle and top of the vineyard, often with only a barrel of each that are then blended together. 2015 was an excellent vintage for Vougeot and this is drinking beautifully now but will continue to improve in bottle.
Vinous
Bright ruby-red. Medicinal yet very ripe aromas of black cherry, blackberry and licorice. Tightly wound and very black in fruit character, boasting terrific intensity and inner-mouth tautness. This dry, classic Clos Vougeot possesses superb energy but is extremely primary and imploded today--even a bit tough. The very long finish features pronounced salty minerality and a powerful spine for aging. One of Saouma's two barrels comes from the bottom of the Clos, which he says is now bringing more finesse to this wine. Stephen Tanzer1st January 2017

A Boutique Négociant

Founded by Mounir and Rotem Saouma in the late 1990s, Lucien Le Moine is a small, quality focussed négociant that bottle wines from some of the greatest Premier and Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. The team aim to bottle around 100 barrels each vintage, which can sometimes represent over 60 different wines. There are no contracts with the growers and no winemaking requirements from Lucien Le Moine beyond the stipulation that the wines be of the highest possible quality.

The wines arrive with Lucien Le Moine fully vinified and Rotem and Mounir focus solely on élévage, racking the wines into new oak barrels made to their own particular specifications. It's tricky to generalise across dozens of wines from many different crus, but both the whites and reds tend towards the generous with a ripeness of fruit and a fullness of body that is rare in the Côte d'Or.
