Domaine Drouhin-Laroze was founded in 1850 in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin and has an enviable portfolio of Premier and Grand Crus in the Côte de Nuits. The domaine’s holdings in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru consists of the two lieux-dits of “Plante l’Abbé” and “Quartier de Marei Haut” covering a total area of 1 hectare. The 2014 harvest was completely destemmed and this is a medium-bodied, fleshy and supple release perfect for drinking now and over the next 10 years.

Good medium-deep red. Aromas of black cherry, raspberry, minerals and flowers are complemented by pungent sweet oak. Juicy, spicy, savory Clos Vougeot with good tautness and saline soil complexity. The dark cherry fruit is complicated by musky hints of leather and game and sweetened by the spicy oak element. I like the sugar/acid balance here and the substantial dusty tannins are ripe and harmonious. This classic, soil-driven Clos Vougeot finishes with notes of minerals, herbs and dried flowers.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2017

The 2014 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru, which is completely destemmed, has a sweet, almost pastille-like bouquet with maraschino cherry, blueberry and violet notes, not unlike a Chambolle Amoureuses in some ways. I like the exuberance displayed here. The palate is medium-bodied with supple black fruit, the oak just a little dominating towards the finish although there is decent depth and persistence in place. Give it 4-5 years in bottle. Neal Martin31st December 2015
