Clos de Tart, a 7.5-hectare monopole Grand Cru vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis, is one of Burgundy`s most prestigious sites, with an impressive reputation for producing exceptional Pinot Noir. Under the guidance of Sylvain Pitiot (1996-2015), the quality of Clos de Tart reached extraordinary heights.
The 1978 Clos de Tart stands as a testament to the vineyard`s pedigree, offering a truly legendary example of what this Grand Cru is capable of. This is a wine of prestige, with decades of development adding layers of complexity. The nose is a mix of dried red fruit, leather, and earthy spice, while the palate displays a delicate balance of sweetness and savoury notes, with fine tannins still present. The wine`s length and depth are remarkable, making it a rare and exceptional offering from one of Burgundy’s most iconic vineyards.

The 1978 Clos du Tart Grand Cru has a well-defined nose with brambly red fruit, rosewater and Clementine, light potpourri scents percolating up with time. The palate is quite elegant on the entry, perhaps just missing some substance. The main gripe with this Grand Cru is that it kind of "gives up" halfway through and tapers away dramatically. Tasted at the 1978 Bouilland horizontal. Neal Martin23rd April 2025
