Domaine Leroy produces a range of wines from Pinot Noir that comes from some of the most iconic vineyards in the world and the estate is considered to be second only to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in terms of price and quality. This beautiful vintage benefits from decanting a few hours before service. Ripe red and black fruit with sweet and savoury spiced notes. Pure composure, this is a real treat.

The 1999 Clos de la Roche Gran Cru represented my first encounter, this bottle poured blind. It has a life-affirming bouquet of vivacious red fruit and pressed iris petals, incense and light loamy aromas developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine bead of acidity and luxuriant, supple tannins. Pure and elegant, this feels rounded rather than plump, a Clos de la Roche with no edges and rising to a wonderful crescendo on the finish. Fabulous. Tasted at Arbor restaurant in Hong Kong. Burgundian Royalty

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988).

In 1988, recognising the trend towards domaine bottling in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased what would become Domaine Leroy: an estate situated in Vosne-Romanée (previously known by the name Domaine Noëllat). Domaine Leroy labelled wines are thus are produced from parcels of grapes grown on the 22ha of domaine-owned Côte d'Or vineyards, which span nine different Grand Crus. These wines are produced biodynamically and at extremely low yields, resulting in superbly concentrated expressions of the Burgundian terroir.
