Domaine Leroy produces a range of wines from Pinot Noir that comes from some of the most iconic vineyards in the world, including Le Chambertin, Musigny, Clos de Vougeot and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. The estate is considered to be second only to Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in terms of price and quality. The 1998 Clos de la Roche is a very focused and powerful wine from start-to-finish. Forward and lush, with a purity of fruit, earthy, spicy notes, and a strawberry finish.
94 Vinous
Deep full ruby. Knockout nose combines briary red and black berries, mocha, minerals and oak. Powerfully structured but not at all austere, especially in the context of the vintage, due to its extraordinary silkiness and sweetness of fruit. Powerful but ripe acids extend the fruit on the aftertaste, while strong but suave tannins saturate the palate. Has all the elements for greatness. But then, this wine has been superb from the beginning, notes Bize-Leroy.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2000

Burgundian Royalty

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988).

In 1988, recognising the trend towards domaine bottling in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased what would become Domaine Leroy: an estate situated in Vosne-Romanée (previously known by the name Domaine Noëllat). Domaine Leroy labelled wines are thus are produced from parcels of grapes grown on the 22ha of domaine-owned Côte d'Or vineyards, which span nine different Grand Crus. These wines are produced biodynamically and at extremely low yields, resulting in superbly concentrated expressions of the Burgundian terroir.
