Founded in 1968 by Jacques Seysses, Domaine Dujac is a highly regarded Burgundy producer based in Morey-Saint-Denis. The estate has a reputation for producing world-class wines from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, ranging from entry-level Bourgogne to complex, age-worthy Grand Cru expressions, such as this ‘Clos de la Roche’. An intense frost during the early days of April 2021 significantly diminished Domaine Dujac`s yields to around half of a typical harvest. Following a damp and chilly spring, and an early summer marked by the same conditions, a period of favourable weather spanning five to six weeks facilitated the grapes` satisfactory ripening. As a consequence, the resulting wines exude a refreshing, cool, and aromatic quality, predominantly characterized by red-fruit aromas and flavours.

The 2021 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru has an expressive bouquet, more complex than the Clos des Lambrays and again demonstrating clever use of whole cluster that is proportional to the fruit. Fine delineation. The palate is beautifully balanced with filigree tannins. Lightly peppered, tensile with a linear and quite saline/black tea-infused finish, this retains the classical style of the reds in this vintage and conveys a sense of class. Recommended. More brooding than the Clos Saint-Denis, Dujac's 2021 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru opens in the glass with aromas of dark berries, cherries, sweet forest floor and baking spices. Full-bodied, layered and muscular, with impressive concentration and a long, rose-inflected finish, it's another of the range's high-points.William Kelley31st January 2023

A Focus on Terroir

Founded in the late 1960s by Jacques Seysses, who purchased and renovated Domaine Graillet in Morey-St-Denis. The estate is currently run by Jacques' sons Jeremy and Alec, who farm around 17 hectares of vines across the Côte including holdings in Echezeaux, Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin and Bonnes Mares.

A natural approach is taken in the vineyard and cellar with the estate moving from organic farming to fully biodynamic in the mid 2000s, receiving their certification in 2011. The team's focus is on elegance - temperatures are controlled to keep alcohol in check and also limit malolactic fermentation while juice from the crush is fed into the cellar by gravity only without the use of pumping. The wines of Domaine Dujac represent pure, balanced expressions of their respective terroirs.
